چکیده

Compared with standard Galerkin finite element methods, mixed methods for second-order elliptic problems give readily available flux approximation, but in general at the expense of having to deal with a more complicated discrete system. This is especially true when conforming elements are involved. Hence it is advantageous to consider a direct method when finding fluxes is just a small part of the overall modeling processes. The purpose of this article is to introduce a direct method combining the standard Galerkin Q1 conforming method with a cheap local flux recovery formula. The approximate flux resides in the lowest order Raviart-Thomas space and retains local conservation property at the cluster level. A cluster is made up of at most four quadrilaterals. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 20: 104–127, 2004

Mixed finite volume methods on nonstaggered quadrilateral grids for elliptic problems

We construct and analyze a mixed finite volume method on quadrilateral grids for elliptic problems written as a system of two first order PDEs in the state variable (e.g., pressure) and its flux (e.g., Darcy velocity). An important point is that no staggered grids or covolumes are used to stabilize the system. Only a single primary grid system is adopted, and the degrees of freedom are imposed ...

On the Design of Non-conforming High-resolution Finite Element Schemes

The algebraic flux-correction (AFC) approach introduced in [8, 17] for the accurate treatment of convection-dominated flow problems and refined in a series of publications [9,11–15,18,19] is extended to non-conforming finite element discretizations. Originally, this class of multidimensional high-resolution schemes was developed in the framework of conforming (multi-)linear P1/Q1 approximations...

A Mass Conservative Method for Numerical Modeling of Axisymmetric flow

In this paper, the cell-centered finite volume method (CC-FVM) has been presented to simulate the axisymmetric radial flow toward a pumping well. The model is applied to the unstructured triangular grids which allows to simulate inhomogeneous and complex-shaped domains. Due to the non-orthogonality of the irregular grids, the multipoint flux approximation (MPFA) methods are used to discretize t...

A Family of Multipoint Flux Mixed Finite Element Methods for Elliptic Problems on General Grids

In this paper, we discuss a family of multipoint flux mixed finite element (MFMFE) methods on simplicial, quadrilateral, hexahedral, and triangular-prismatic grids. The MFMFE methods are locally conservative with continuous normal fluxes, since they are developed within a variational framework as mixed finite element methods with special approximating spaces and quadrature rules. The latter all...

A Mixed Finite Element Method on a Staggered Mesh for Navier-stokes Equations

In this paper, we introduce a mixed finite element method on a staggered mesh for the numerical solution of the steady state Navier-Stokes equations in which the two components of the velocity and the pressure are defined on three different meshes. This method is a conforming quadrilateral Q1 × Q1 − P0 element approximation for the Navier-Stokes equations. First-order error estimates are obtain...
